4 Things To Realize About Bottled Water

One of the biggest mistakes I made when I started my first business was overlooking the importance of financial management. I had no idea how to do business accounting or even manage my inventory properly. At tax time, I was in way over my head. I spent a long time working with a business accountant to understand the basics and explore the details of the process so that I could manage my own books through the year. That's when I published this blog. I hope the information here will help others like me who don't have the financial edge but still want to run their own business.

If you drink bottled water, it is helpful to know what you are really drinking. Here are four things that you need to realize about bottled water.

#1 Bottled Water Is Designed To Be Recycled

Bottled water is always packaged in plastic that can be recycled. In some states, you now have to put down a deposit on bottled water like you do on soda cans. However, even if you don't have to put down a deposit for the water, you should be able to easily recycle your bottled water at any plastic recycling service center.

Bottled water is designed to be recycled, not thrown in the trash, so create a bin at home and at the office for bottled water containers to go into so that they are not put in the trash and into a landfill. This material can be and should be used again.

#2 There Are Various Types Of Bottled Water

Second, not all bottled water is the same. There are at least five common types of bottled water that you are likely to encounter in the store.

  • Drinking Water:  This type of water is designed for you to drink, pure and simple, and doesn't have anything added to it.
  • Purified Water: This type of water has gone through some sort of purification process to remove impurities from the water. Common purification processes include reverse osmosis, distillation and deionization.
  • Mineral Water: Mineral water generally comes from a tapped source, such as a spring. It contains a small amount of dissolved solids natural; no additional minerals are added to the water.
  • Spring Water: This type of water has to come from either an aquifer or an underground formation.
  • Sparking Water: Carbon dioxide is added to this type of water to give it a bubble effect, similar to soda.

#3 Bottled Water Producers Don't Draw From Ground Water

In general, companies that make bottled water do not pull from the ground water for an area. That means the water used for bottled water usually doesn't come from the same source that is providing water for the citizens of the area.

#4 Bottled Water Is Great In Emergencies

Finally, bottled water is great in emergencies. Many bottle watered companies donate truck full of bottled water when natural disasters hit, such as hurricanes and tornadoes, to ensure that those impacted by the disaster have access to potable drinking water. Many water companies also donate to man-made disasters, such as the lead water crisis in Flint, MI. Man water bottle companies are dedicated to giving back to the communities that use their products.
